In particular, the management has a special responsibility to:
  • Provide sufficient training, instruction and information to enable employees to perform their work safely and efficiently.
  • Pursue a vigorous programme of accident prevention.
  • Consult with and involve employees on all matters relating to their health and safety while at work.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and healthy working environment, plant and systems of work, taking account of any statutory requirements.
  • Make available all necessary safety devices and protective equipment and to supervise their use.
  • Maintain a constant and continuing interest in health and safety matters applicable to the companies activities, and for all members of management to demonstrate this commitment to safety, by setting an example in safe behaviour.
It is also important to realise that employees have a duty to co-operate in this objective and must respond to the lead of management by:
  • Adhering to company procedures, jointly agreed on their behalf, for securing a safe workplace.
  • Using the protective equipment and devices provided, and by meeting statutory obligations.
  • Working safely and efficiently and having due regard for health and safety of themselves and fellow employees.
  • Reporting incidents that have led or may lead to personal injury or damage to property.
  • Assisting in the investigation of accidents, with the objective of aiding management to introduce measures to prevent recurrences.
